Quinn is out?!?!

So the Oilers made their news yesterday. But instead of moving a player or two for picks like I had hoped they would, instead they made the announcement that they were moving Coach Quinn into the head office as an advisor (scratch that)... SENIOR advisor.

Now it's no surprise that when a team finishes last in the league, at least "some" blame has to be put on the coach. And there were question marks in regards to Quinn staying on as a long term coach when it was clear that at his age he would be best served on a team that is in a position to win now rather than a team in a full rebuild.

But this sounded like a complete surprise to him as well as everyone else. This is two (thats right, count em TWO) coaches that Tamellini has messed with in ONE offseason. First Daum and now Quinn.

I really hate to take away from talking about Quinn, but that will be topic of every blog, radio show and newspaper by tomorrow anyway.

What I really want to talk about is how Tambellini seems to be running the team.

Not so much WHAT he has done, but HOW he has done it. Tambellini seems to be very much a man that keeps everyone out of the loop. I am of the mind that a team needs to be completely on the same page regardless of what it is about. Tambellini doesn't share this idea. So be it, but he is going to make more enemies than friends this way.
One knock on the team as of late is how the organization has handled the players. Now they are building a reputation for treating their very own staff like outsiders. I sure hope this trend doesnt continue because a team is only as good as its weakest link. If they start losing out on good staff because they no longer want to be a part of an organization that doesnt respect them, they will be left with the scraps out there and that will be worse than anything else when trying to rebuild.

I hope this GM has a solid plan up his sleeve. Because at the moment it doesnt look like he does. This move creates more questions than answers. I for one dont like it.
